A virtue to practise
Respectful
Being respectful means treating people, places and things as if they matter, because they do.
What being respectful means
Respect shows in small ways: good manners, listening, taking turns and looking after other people's belongings. It also means accepting that people can be different from you in how they look, what they believe and what they enjoy, and treating them with the same dignity anyway.
How to practise being respectful
- Look at people when they speak to you, and listen without interrupting.
- Ask before you borrow something, and give it back in good condition.
- Use please, thank you and people's names.
- Leave places tidier than you found them.
