A virtue to practise

Loyalty

Loyalty is sticking by the people, groups and promises that matter to you, in good times and hard times.

What loyalty means

A loyal friend doesn't talk behind your back, and doesn't disappear when things get tough. Loyalty is built on trust. It is not the same as going along with something wrong: a truly loyal friend will tell you when they think you are making a mistake.

How to practise loyalty

  1. Stand up for a friend when someone talks badly about them behind their back.
  2. Keep a secret a friend trusted you with, unless keeping it could mean someone gets hurt.
  3. Stick with your team or group when things aren't going well.
  4. Check in on a friend who is going through a hard time.
